What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and wellbeing through occupation. Occupation in this sense is not someone’s job but refers to the everyday tasks, responsibilities and activities which bring meaning to individuals, communities and families.
Our primary goal is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life to their fullest potential. We do this by modifying the occupation (task) and/or the environment to best suit the individual. We have a broad educational background in medical, psychological, social and occupational sciences to equip us with the skills, attitudes and knowledge to work collaboratively with our clients individually, in groups or within communities.
When working with children, Occupational Therapists often focus on helping children reach their potential in the following areas:
· Gross and Fine motor skills
· Emotional Regulation
· Sensory Interventions
· Self-care
· Social skills
· School
